Press the buttons in any order you like, and the hand-cut shapes answer in light, animation and sound. Andy Arkley’s San Antonio work turns each guest into a collaborator in a joyful audiovisual composition.

About the artist

Andy Arkley makes art designed, at its core, to make people happy. He says so himself, and the work backs him up: hand-cut wooden shapes, airbrushed color, lights that blink along to music, and buttons that beg to be pressed.

The full Happiness wall, dozens of bright cut-out shapes around a smiling face, the button pad on a plinth in front.
Happiness up close, layered cut-out shapes in green, yellow and blue running down the wall toward a rainbow arch.
Happiness in its blue state, a guest standing by the glowing rainbow arch.
A group of guests seen from behind before the lit face of Happiness, its eyes, rainbows and cut-out shapes in bright colour.
Several hands press the glowing button pad that sets the sculptures in motion.
