One decade a week. A DJ in the gallery. Everyone who swore they were leaving early, still here at close.

In May we tried something. Three Fridays, one decade each. The 80s, then the 90s, then Y2K, in both cities on the same nights. DJ BHolt took Portland. DJ Steven Curd took San Antonio. The dress code was a suggestion that most people took seriously.
Why a gallery makes a good dance floor
Because the rooms were built for bodies, not for standing still. GAZE is a labyrinth of mirrors and light, which turns out to be the best possible place to lose your friends and find them again. Quantum Trampoline was designed to be jumped on. Nobody had to be told what to do. The music just gave them permission.
Never stop playing is easier to say than to do. A DJ helps.
What we saw
These frames are from Portland. People in shoulder pads under colored light. The booth set up inside GAZE. A floor that stopped being a floor sometime around the second hour. The photographs do most of the talking.

What happened next
It worked. Friday from 7pm is now Adult Night in both buildings, every week, no theme required. The decades come back for special editions. Halloween is the next one, October 30, and the 80s are on the invitation.
