Adult Night, explained

Fridays from 7pm the lights change and the rules change with them. Same exhibits. Different night.

Dispatch · San Antonio · PortlandAug 28, 2026

Every Friday at 7pm, both buildings change. The last child ticket sold hours ago. The lights come down, the Lounge keeps pouring, and the exhibits get a little stranger. Adult Night is adults only, standard admission, and the same rooms you could have visited at noon with a four year old.

Same exhibits, different rules

That is not a contradiction. The art was built to be played with, and adults play differently when nobody is watching them be responsible. Quantum Trampoline turns into a dance floor. The ball pit fills with people who swore they were too old for it. In Portland a DJ sets up in GAZE. The bar does what a bar does, with better lighting than most.

Adults playing like kids again. Now with a beat.

Where it came from

In May we ran three themed Fridays in both cities, one decade each: 80s, 90s, Y2K, with DJ BHolt in Portland and DJ Steven Curd in San Antonio. We called it Dance Nights. It worked well enough that Friday from 7pm is now just what the building does. Halloween gets its own edition on October 30 in both cities, with an 80s dress code that is more invitation than rule.

Practical things

Standard admission, no separate ticket. In San Antonio the last child ticket sells at 4:30pm. Ages, hours and who is on the decks are on each city’s events page, and they are the version to trust. Come dressed for anything.
